This beautiful couple has always loved Schweitzer Mountain. With staying up in the mountain lodges as a family multiple times, they decided to come up to Schweitzer Mountain for couples photos to commemorate the day they legally got married!
The day of the session, when I was about to leave my house and drive to Schweitzer, the sky looked very menacing and there were thunderstorms in the forecast. I made it up the mountain before the storm reached Sandpoint, but it eventually caught up with us during our session! We were able to get a few photos before it hit us, then we had to take cover while we waited out the thunderstorm. Luckily we got a stunning rainbow at the end of the session to make it all worth it!
Mountain storms usually pass pretty quickly thankfully so we just hung out and got to know each other while we listened to the thunder pass overhead.
When is the best time to shoot on Schweitzer in the summer?
Schweitzer Mountain has an elevation of 6400 feet, so by July is usually a safe bet to be able to access the mountain in the summer! These images were taken in August, so everything was well melted off and we had stunning bright yellow flowers that made an appearance for these photos.
How far is Schweitzer Mountain from Coeur d'Alene?
Schweitzer Mountain is only 45 minutes North of Coeur d’Alene, and only 80 miles from Spokane, WA. The town of Sandpoint is a must-see if you've never been! It's located right at the base of Schweitzer mountain and surrounding it is Lake Pend Oreille, the largest lake in Idaho. There's a main street full of fun shops, delicious restaurants, and stunning beach areas.

With Schweitzer Mountain basically being my backyard, I love taking my couples up here for their adventurous couples photo session! With stunning views of Lake Pend Oreille and mountain ranges for as far as the eye can see, Schweitzer Mountain is a beautiful spot for any session!
Taking these couples photos on Schweitzer Mountain was such a fun time, I love sharing with my couples the love for the mountains and how beautiful North Idaho is! Even though the weather was a bit crazy for this session, I always feel like it adds so much visual interest to the photos, and it makes for a fun and memorable experience!
