Spring Proposal Photos on Tubbs Hill in Coeur d'Alene Idaho

This last April I had the honor to photograph Frank and Saira's Proposal on Tubbs Hill in Coeur d'Alene! Usually Tubbs Hill is absolutely packed in the summertime, but this early on in the season there was hardly anyone else out and about and it was just so beautiful with all the wildflowers lining the hillside and the breeze coming through the trees.

I'm so excited to announce that this Spring Proposal Photos on Tubbs Hill in Coeur d'Alene Idaho is featured on Rocky Mountain Bride! Here's an excerpt from the article: "Frank planned to propose to his girlfriend on Tubbs Hill in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He spent a few weeks scoping out just the right spot for their intimate moment, keeping in mind that his girlfriend Saira didn’t want anyone around to witness their special moment! She wasn’t even expecting a photographer to be present. Frank made sure there were incredible mountain views in the background for her, and wanted it during golden hour. I brought my husband along to pretend to be birdwatching near the spot Frank picked out, and have them casually run into us while out on their hike. Frank had the ring in his backpack, and there was a deer down in the distance by the water that we had Saira look at while Frank got the ring out of the bag. Her reaction to the proposal was emotional yet filled with so much joy.”

Check out the photos from their intimate proposal overlooking the lake below along with tips for a seamless proposal and more location ideas in the Coeur d'Alene area!

How to Dress for a Proposal

  • The first step in all of this is to pick a location!

  • Once you have a location picked, it’s important to pick an outfit that will harmonize with the location. For example, if we shot in a forest or trees, you would want to pick some jewel toned greens, and some neutrals such as beige and white/cream. Another example, if we shot in a field/desert, you could wear whites/creams, browns, or mustard yellows.

  • Make sure your girl is confident in the outfit she'll get proposed to in.

Another way to add interest to your photos is to add accessories! Throw on some rings, earrings, and dainty necklaces. For guys, they can throw on a watch as well or bring a belt buckle. Every little detail really makes a difference and adds to your photos!

Tips for Taking the Best Proposal Photos

The first and most important step would be to communicate with your photographer! Whether you have a spot picked out already or need help, we are there to assist. That way we can have a plan on how to hide our cameras or look natural until the moment.

Also, sunset is always a good idea so you get that golden, glowy light!

Things to Consider When Proposing

Here are a few things to consider when planning to propose:

  • Do you want family or friends there to witness it, or just the two of you?

  • Pick a good time of day for the location you want. Sometimes this can mean sunrise or sunset for the best light and fewer people around.

  • Meet with your photographer beforehand if possible to show them where you want to propose. If this isn't possible, be sure to send us a photo of what you two look like and what outfits you are wearing so we know it's you!

Best Locations Near Coeur d'Alene to Propose

As a born and raised local, I know that there's so many beautiful spots in this area to propose! Besides Tubbs Hill and the resort boardwalk (which are some of the most popular proposal spots), there's some other really pretty spots to consider. Here's some ideas:

Mineral Ridge

If you're up for a moderate hike, Mineral Ridge offers vast views of Lake Coeur d'Alene over by where it's popular to watch eagles in the wintertime! There's a bench and a small dirt area to stand that overlooks the area, but this is a popular spot so I'd recommend starting early or trying for a weekday.

Blue Creek Bay Recreation Area

This is another gorgeous spot with hiking trails and views of the lake a little bit off the beaten path. You won't miss out on the views here but it's typically a little quieter than the downtown areas.

Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive

This drive is absolutely stunning any time of the year! There's a walking path that follows the shoreline for miles, and it's perfect for walking or biking.

English Point

Located up on the mountain in Hayden Idaho is another popular hiking area called English Point. This area gives you a more forested feel, and there's three different trails that you can choose from.

Elk Creek Falls

For a more rugged proposal spot with a waterfall, check out Elk Creek Falls, which is an hour east of Moscow Idaho. There's three different waterfall viewpoints here, and you have to hike down to these falls, but this is Idaho's longest waterfall and is a fun spot to consider!
