an elopement ceremony with dogs in idaho in front of a lake

June in North Idaho can be a bit unpredictable, but nonetheless absolutely beautiful! We definitely got a mix of rain, clouds, sun, and even some thunder and lightning ⛈️ , but all of these elements added to the day making it one of a kind and so fun and memorable for this Rainy Mountain Elopement with Dogs in North Idaho!

Heather and Brady chose to elope in the Selkirk Mountains with their two huskies Maverick and Mabel 🐾 They’ve never been on this hike before, and I’m so glad I was able to lead them up there and show them my favorite lake nestled away in the mountains for their elopement.

When you choose to focus on your relationship as a priority for your wedding and include what’s most important to you, you’ll get to experience incredible moments together - at the start of the ceremony, the dogs laid down right at the train of Heather’s dress and it was just a dream! We even got some sun for when they said their vows ☀️

After hiking back to the cars, we drove to their absolutely gorgeous Airbnb in Sandpoint and we all enjoyed a boho dinner with with incredible food! They enjoyed some dances together and it was the perfect way to end such an amazing day! Let's go further into detail on each part of their day.

Driving Together to the Trailhead

Heather and Brady couldn't pick between two locations for their elopement, one they've been to before, and another was a completely new spot. One was for sure accessible, and the other was a bit higher in elevation. They ultimately decided they wanted to go with a new spot, which I think always makes for such a fun experience together! It's one of my favorite elopement locations in North Idaho, so I led the way and they followed me up the road to the trailhead!

This spot isn't always accessible yet in late June due to the high elevation, but with research in Facebook hiking groups and photos on AllTrails, we decided we wanted to attempt to make it up, even if we had to park a bit lower and walk up. Luckily we made it to the parking lot just fine and we were greeted by gorgeous and snow covered rocky peaks and a pristine alpine lake.

Colorful Boho Inspired Details

Heather picked out the most beautiful boho details for their elopement! Between her wedding dress, her turquoise jewelry, her hair with braids that her friend/officiant did in the car, and her colorful florals from BeeHaven Flower Farm, everything just popped off of the cloudy mountaintop we were greeted with.

Brady wore a snazzy green suit and red tie, (which I was so stoked for because I've always wanted to photograph a green suit)! The overall aesthetic was *chef's kiss!*

And of course we can't forget about the floral collar for their girl husky Mabel, and Maverik the boy husky got a tuxedo attachment for his collar. How stinking cute!!!

Romantic First Look in the Rain

As I mentioned in the beginning of this blog, June in North Idaho (especially in the mountains) can be very unpredictable, so we were greeted with some rain for their first look. But I brought along my trusty clear umbrellas, which are both functional and look adorable in the rain. Boy am I glad we decided to trek them up the trail with us!

How to do a First Look in the Mountains:

A lot of my couples ask how handle a first look in the mountains when they need to drive together, and hiking up in your regular hiking clothes (even if your hair and makeup is already done) is a good way to do it, and then you can separate at the top of the trail to get dressed separately! You can also do your hair and/or makeup at the top as well. Your wedding attire can then also be packed in your backpacks, either by rolling it, or folding a garment bag in half on the outside.

Intimate Ceremony with their Huskies

I swear this ceremony was straight out of a fairytale because as soon as they were ready to start, their dogs laid down right in between them and it couldn't have been more perfect!! I mean just look at them! I couldn't believe it.

We even got some periods of sun to come through, so it was the perfect mix of rain and shine!

Catered Dinner at Bald Eagle Lodge in Sandpoint

After their picture-perfect ceremony by an alpine lake, we hiked back down and the weather got rainy again, but it was perfect that my couple rented Bald Eagle Lodge in Sandpoint! They had the most delicious catered dinner by Lil Taste of Heaven on old dinnerware (perfect for fitting the bohemian theme), and cupcakes and dances to finish the night off!

Heather and Brady's Review from their Rainy Adventure Elopement in the Mountains:

"Having Karlie as my elopement photographer helped us plan our perfect elopement!

Her service went far beyond photographs. She was super responsive and helped me stay on track with my planning. She even provided extra resources to help me pick my vendors and checklists to help me make sure that I was not forgetting anything.

The photographs I've received capture exactly how perfect this day was for my husband and I and I could not be happier with the quality of both the photographs and the service I received from Karlie 🤗"
